THE OPPORTUNITY

In this newly created role (we’re growing, and that’s pretty cool), we’re looking for a bright, logical thinker who wants an opportunity to work with an incredibly large, dynamic system.  Our Tech Ops team keeps our products running, works closely with multiple departments (from development to product to finance…), and is a key part of our success.  You will be help us ensure our live systems are running smoothly, handle escalated client issues (nope, you don’t need to talk to the clients – just help us help them), and work in a close knit team of talented technical pros.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES

• In a LINUX environment, troubleshoot complicated technical problems with assistance from Engineering and other teams as you need it
• Take production issues to resolution with little or no supervision (we want to let you run with it, in other words)
• Keep abreast of cutting edge technologies, and suggest them as appropriate
• Continue to look for improvement opportunities for monitoring, and the modification of documentation of current failures to improve monitoring standards
• Participate in cross-functional initiatives (this includes the occasional lunch with our President, who kinda rocks)
• Provide both scripted and unstructured troubleshooting
• Execute system maintenance tasks as needed
• Deploy software releases and upgrades to production servers
• Share emergency on-call support with the Info Tech team (typically about a week out of every month)

THE REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelors degree in CS, IT, or equivalent experience in a production support environment
• 0 – 5 years of experience (if that’s a “O”, we want to see a technical degree and your related coursework)
• Solid understanding of LINUX operating system, as well as Windows, and the ability to diagnose common system issues within both systems
• Database experience (if you’re a fresh grad, let us know what database courses you took. Smarty). We use MS SQL but any experience is good.
• IIS and JBoss experience big
• Generally nice. We like ambitious, but not crawling over people to get ahead. Your parents should have taught you the difference.
• Be great if you had some database performance tuning experience
• Experience (or, if you’re a fresh grad, burning desire to have) in a small company environment
• Ability – no, desire – to work with minimal supervision, but know when to raise your hand and say “help me!”
• You should like people.  You’ll be working with them.
